Since childhood, art has been a large part of my life. I always loved art class and getting to do different projects. It wasn’t until high school that I realized I may have a real talent for it. Before tattooing, my artwork mostly focused on realistic animal and pet portraits. I have always found it extremely fulfilling to capture the likeness of an animal for someone; something you can hang onto as a reminder of your pet for years to come. I get the same feeling when I get to tattoo my clients.
Throughout adulthood, I’ve gone to college for art where I was able to explore different mediums. It was hard to know what I could do to be artistic for a career; at first, tattooing wasn’t even on my radar (I didn’t even get my first small tattoo until I was 20!). To be honest I wasn’t really sure whether or not I would be cut out for an industry like this, that can at times be very toxic, at least that’s what I had always heard. Forever grateful that I learned how to tattoo from Doug Sparks aka @meanmugdoug. He made learning easy and more stress-free than I ever imagined, after hearing horror stories about apprenticeships through the years.
As I head into my thirties, I’m so glad I took the step in my life to learn how to tattoo. It is really so different from any other type of art medium and has the power to connect people and change lives, how special. Especially when I tend to struggle to connect with people on my own, it’s been great to meet so many new people and do so many fun tattoos for them! And now I’m coming into my own and really trying to figure out what exactly is my “style.” I appreciate everyone who gets tattooed by me every day. I truly don’t know where I would be without you.
